{"id":527,"date":"2014-03-13T15:31:45","date_gmt":"2014-03-13T15:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nemus.pt\/?page_id=527"},"modified":"2016-02-24T15:07:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T15:07:20","slug":"monitorizacao-ambiental-do-porto-do-canical","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nemus.pt\/en\/projects\/areas-marinhas-e-costeiras\/monitorizacao-ambiental-do-porto-do-canical\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental monitoring of Madeira&#8217;s harbours, Portugal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To improve the operability and security of ships at Cani\u00e7al\u2019s Maritime Terminal several expansion works were performed, including the extension of the exterior breakwater, the improvement of the access roads and the implementation of embankments.<\/p>\n<p>In this project, Nemus assessed the <b>expansion impacts <\/b>and the <b>effectiveness of the minimization measures <\/b>implemented through the examination of water quality, sediments, aquatic ecosystems and noise.<\/p>\n<p>After the improvements, Nemus verified the compliance with the environmental impact assessment\u2019s terms and reevaluated the after effects of the harbour\u2019s expansion: several <b>samples of water, sediments and aquatic fauna and flora elements were collected and analyzed <\/b>and <b>noise levels <\/b>and <b>visual census of aquatic habitats <\/b>were measured.
