Nemus’ New Project in Lake Tanganyika, Zambia

Nemus was recently awarded yet another important project on the African continent, this time in Zambia, for the Strategic Environmental Assessment for Small Scale Cage Fish Farming in Lake Tanganyika in Mpulungu and Nsama Districts – Northern Province, for the Provincial Administration Northern Province within the Lake Tanganyika Development Project.

The project, whose objective is to improve the quality of livelihood of populations depending on the Lake and to protect the ecological integrity of the basin, represents Nemus’ first project in Zambia and will be developed jointly with the company’s Mozambican subsidiary, Nemus África.

Nemus’ work will consist on the elaboration of a Strategic Environmental Assessment, which will serve as a guiding document to be used by the Government of Zambia in the sustainable development and management of aquaculture enterprises on Lake Tanganyika. Specifically, the Assessment will address small scale Tilapia farming using floating cages in the Zambian part of Lake Tanganyika.

With this project, Nemus will have performed work on the three largest lakes in Africa, namely Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi, and thus extending the range of countries where it works, in this vast continent.
