Nemus in 1st Specialized Conference on Ecology, Management and River Restoration in Salvador, Brazil

On July 28 (Tuesday), Nemus made a presentation on “The importance of river restoration scenarios within the update of the São Francisco river basin management plan for 2016-2025” on the first Specialized Conference on Ecology, Management and River Restoration in Brazil. The event, which gathered various professionals from several countries, took place on July 27 and 28 2015 in the Portobello Ondina Praia Hotel convention hall in Salvador, Bahia.

The oral communication, together with a scientific poster, were presented by Pedro Bettencourt, CEO of Nemus, who discussed the ecological importance of the riparian vegetation, its role on the regional ecological connectivity and its management and protection which is essential for the maintenance and the sustainable management of crucial activities for the populations, such as navigation, fishing and agriculture, among others.

The conference is the result of a partnership between the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil) and the international program “FLUVIO”, coordinated by the University of Lisbon (Portugal), featuring the Technical University of Madrid (Spain), the Federal University of Bahia and the companies KE – Katopodis Ecohydraulics Ltd. (Canada) and ECK – Environmental Consulting Klagenfurt (Austria). The event encouraged the disclosure of research and actions about the management and restoration of water bodies, with particular emphasis on practices and experiences, discussing opportunities, practices and other appropriate tools to address and solve problems in this area.
