The Government of Angola requested funding from the World Bank to boost institutional capacity of the water agencies in Bié, Huambo, Huila, Namibe, Kwanza Norte, Uíge, Malanje, Lunda Norte and Moxico, in order to extend the coverage of services and scope of water supply systems, and as additional funding to carry out strategic studies at a national and provincial level to implement sanitation systems.
The WSIDP-2 Project was designed to cover a set of subprojects with different sizes and impacts. The WSIDP-2 aims to reinforce the objectives of WSIDP-1, helping to increase the drinking water coverage and ensuring the sustainability of the systems in the nine target cities. The specific objectives are:
- Institutional support for sectoral development, including water resources management;
- Rehabilitation and expansion of water supply systems in nine provincial capitals provincial capitals;
- Capacity building and institutional changes.
