Knowing the sources of pollution located in the basin of the Alvito dam, in Alentejo, was the objective of the project conducted by Nemus.
The study, which comprised the identification and characterization of urban, industrial and livestock pollution sources and the development of a database with the collected information, constituted the support for the suitability of the monitoring program of the covered water resources.
The many steps of this study included the collection and analysis of bibliographic information and information from the consultation of various entities; the development of characterization and structuring sheets of the database; field surveys involving visits to all the population clusters, waste water treatment stations, effluent discharge locations, industrial plants and livestock farms; data analysis and processing; updating the database and making the respective filling out manual.
