This project is about the construction of a Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) Plant for processing, filling and storing gas in cylinders that are meant to be distributed throughout Northern Mozambique. The gas plant will be located in Nacala, Nampula Province, about 8 km from the Nacala port, in an industrial area in the outskirts of the city. The unprocessed gas will enter the region via cargo ships and is then transported to the gas plant by tanker trucks.

Nemus has done the Environmental Impact Assessment of this project that will be occupying an area of 3,200 m2 in a 6,000 m2 lot that might later be used for the expansion of the gas plant.

The nature of the project – fuel storage – has determined the need for an extensive and in-depth assessment of its potential effects, especially considering its proximity to a coastal area of high ecological relevance and elevated environmental sensitivity. Nacala has been developing fast and is under a lot of human and industrial pressure; hence it is of the outmost importance that all pros and cons of the project are thoroughly assessed to assure for a sustainable growth, especially in a developing country like Mozambique.
