This coastal strip located in North Portugal is a dune area with ecologically relevant habitats. However, it is also a sensitive ecosystem and the evolution (actual and predictable) of its conservation status is showing some worrying signs. It is particularly vulnerable during the summer due to the pressure caused by human BEACH activity.

Our project’s objective was to perform a series of integrated actions that would allow for orderly beach fruition and simultaneously to recover, protect and value the dune systems. These actions were focused on the riverside areas with the purpose to improve the quality of the dune line and its close surroundings.

We performed vegetation interventions, mechanic stability actions, biophysical integration and protection of slopes, access planning, building of accommodation equipment and other disciplinary structures to improve the overall use of the area, as well as installing an environmental education system.
