The base program of compensatory measures of the Odelouca dam was commissioned to follow up with the conditions agreed upon with the European Commission for the authorization of the dam’s construction in the Natura 2000 network area.

This study created a reference system integrating all available information and outlined the sequence of necessary tasks for the implementation of the environmental compensation and over-compensation actions defined to minimize the significant impacts of the dam on the region’s natural heritage.

Nemus defined an action program with 21 measures in a document outlining the objectives, typology, framework, cost estimate, spatial and temporal context, phasing and general description of the recommended intervention strategy. The actions were organized in several subprograms, one of which about the studies and monitoring and the remaining subprograms for the compensation of target biological groups: riparian gallery, avifauna, freshwater ichthyofauna and the Iberian lynx.
