The development of the plan to fight Maputo’s environmental pollution is part of the municipal development program of Maputo and its main objectives were to identify the major pollution sources and to formulate recommendations for their mitigation, taking into account the financial and technological resources available in the municipality for the monitoring and control of environmental pollution.
The outlined plan established the necessary programs and actions to fight environmental pollution, relying on the active involvement of the communities. This work was articulated with other studies and projects in progress, particularly in environmental education, in order to ensure that the requalification of informal settlement areas incorporates preventive measures for environmental pollution. Equally relevant is the fact that this plan granted the Municipal Council of Maputo various practical guidelines for environmental management and inspection.
