Privileging the ecosystems’ quality present in a sensitive area from an ecological point of view, the project’s main objective was to promote and enhance the area in order to compensate for the impacts arising from the construction of a highway.

In addition to the required specialty studies, the project included three interventions: the constitution of an interpretive rural route in Paderne’s floodplain, with the recovery of some paths, conception of didactic material, signage and support equipment; the rehabilitation and enhancement of the hydraulic heritage with various interventions on hydraulic structures and walls; and the preparation of a management model for the area with a special focus on maintenance, preservation and enhancement of habitats present in the streams, in which activities such as cleaning and clearing the riverbed and riparian margins are highlighted.
